Dual Monitors: Use a Different Wallpaper on Each Desktop

•February 28, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Multi-monitor displays are becoming more and more common. Let’s face it, computers are so powerful these days that we can run more applications at a time than we have monitor space for… so if you haven’t tried it, it’s time to upgrade to a dual-monitor display.

The immediate issue that you will notice is that the wallpaper displays the same image on both screens. This is especially annoying when you have a laptop and a second monitor, each running at different resolutions, because the second screen will have a “squashed” version of the picture.

Enter Desktop Items…. you can create a web item and put a picture on it to cover the second monitor. Here’s how to do it.

First, you’ll want to go to Display Properties, click Customize Desktop, and then the Web tab, like so:

Now you will want to click the New button, and you’ll be presented with a dialog prompting you to select either a webpage or wallpaper. While it might be cool to use a wallpaper of a website, we’re worried about background images today, so browse to a wallpaper file. We’re going to choose Heart Broken by Pincel3d, but he’s got some other wonderful wallpapers over there.

Now this next part is slightly tricky if you aren’t familiar. You will see an item on your desktop similar to this… depending on the wallpaper you already have, it might be difficult to notice. Move your mouse near the top of the new image that is sitting on your screen, and you will see something similar to this. Note: resized the image down so you can easily see it.

Drag the titlebar of the image over to the monitor you want to cover with the wallpaper, and then click that Maximize button. The wallpaper will magically cover that window. We’re almost done..

Next, you will want to right-click on the desktop, and choose Lock Web Items on Desktop… because we don’t want the image accidentally moving around on us, afterall.

And that’s all there is to it. You now have two seperate wallpapers! (or even three)

RUN OPERA MINI ON AIRTEL NOP

•December 1, 2009 • Leave a Comment

As we all know, Nokia doesn’t allow one to specify a proxy for an Access Point in Series 40 v2 and v3 and v5 phones (6131, 6133, 3110c, 5300, 5200, 5310, 6500) etc.

In its recent versions of the Series40 OS (v2 & v3 & v5), Nokia has removed the ability to specify a proxy server associated with an access point. Therefore, those with WAP network plans (such as TMobileWeb users, Airtel NOP users) are unable to use JAVA programs that require internet access (such as Opera Mini, Google Maps, …).

However, Nokia does allow users to create a provisioning document on their computer. This document, created in wbxml, specifies an access point along with a proxy. The S40 phone recognizes the configuration settings in the document and allows the JAVA midlet to use those instead, thereby allowing the midlet to access the proxy. Its very simple to implement.

The files included in the zip provide some sample xml documents, and the associated provisioning (.prov) files.

Nokia Java Proxy: Download
Download Nokia Java Proxy

XML Editor(wbxml2-0.9.0-bin.win32.rar): Download(optional)

Description of included files:

NokiaJAVAProxy.wml: The wml file that you can edit if you need/want different proxy settings.
NokiaJAVAProxy.prov: The actual binary wbxml provisioning file that should be sent to your phone (via bluetooth or usb). This can NOT be manually edited.

Process:

1: Push the “NokiaJAVAProxy.prov” file to your phone using Bluetooth. send the file via “Send File…” option only do not copy paste to your phone (”object push”, not file transfer). If your are unable to do it, just transfer it to any bluetooth supported phone and send that file via bluetooth to your phone.

2: The phone will recognize the configuration settings, and will prompt you to save them. Don’t worry if it says “no supported applications”.

3: Go to Settings->Configuration->Default Config. Settings, and change the default config to [the name of the configuration we just loaded].

That’s it! JAVA midlets like Opera Mini, Google Maps, MGMaps, etc… should work now.

Sharing files with HTTP File Server

•January 4, 2010 • Leave a Comment

hfs_iconInternet connects people. I mean literally connects people not like in some social talk-to-person-half-globe-distant way. Person A can connect directly to person B and they can do something (depending on what software they are using) over that connection.

Sharing files is actually what Internet is. When you are reading my blog your browser downloads files. When you rip music track from CD and mail it to friend he is downloading file (may be bit less legal than reading my blog). :)

Trick is – for downloading files software is need. Browser is software that obviously every Internet user has. If you want to share file with nothing except browser needed to download it you should consider setting up personal server.

HTTP File Server (HFS) is application for making files available for download.

1. Download and run HFS. Single executable, no need to install.

2. Drop file or folder you want to share into it.

3. Now anyone can visit your PC and see that shared stuff by entering your IP address in their browser.

hfs_interface

No need for same software on both ends, no need for P2P stuff like emule or torrent, no trouble with sending through instant messengers, no need to deal with advertisement filled file hosting services.

Unlike serious server software sites in Internet use (like Apache) HFS is made exactly for sharing files. This means :

* it creates interface pages on the fly, you don’t need to mess with HTML code;

* it doesn’t have any scripting support which makes it extremely secure. There are no known vulnerabilities and amount of access   visitors get to your PC is very slim;

* you get a lot of control over process including ability to set limits, keep logs, create user accounts and set access rights on   files.

hfs_html

Main downside is that HFS requires IP address that can be reached from Internet. Setup may be tricky for users inside local networks or behind routers. There is separate sub-forum dedicated to port and forwarding problems on official HFS site.

There is also no encryption used. Actually most of Internet is not using any encryption so you have to look for specialized secure solutions if dealing with important data.

I am using HFS for a long time and it’s easiest way for file collaboration ever. You don’t have to make people use some special client software, you are simply giving them link and you are done. :)

HFS is freeware and can be set to portable in settings ( Menu > Save options > To file ).

Make FREE International Calls to Any Phone from Google Talk

•February 10, 2010 • Leave a Comment

GTalk2VoIP is a free and publicly open voice gateway for major Instant Messenger clients which enables voice interoperability between Google Talk, MSN/Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and SIP phones without any additional software installation. It makes it possible for people to use instant messenger services, including Google Talk, to call people on regular phones, without requiring any additional software, establishing new accounts or paying any further fees.

Talkster, a Voice 2.0 company, launched its integration with GTalk2VoIP, offering callers worldwide free international, long distance and group conference calls.

The partnership between Talkster and GTalk2VoIp allows callers from any country in the world to leverage Google Talk to make free calls. Using this service, you can call your friend’s mobile or land phone in any of the Talkster’s list of supported countries. A local Talkster numbers is to assigned to your friend so that he can call you back on the local number (mostly free number) and you will receive the call in your Google Talk.

For example, you can call your friend on her mobile or land phone in any of the above countries without costing anything you or your friend. Howzzat?

Using Talkster through GTalk2VoIP will let people communicate freely between mobile phones, landlines and PCs, even in countries not currently supported through Talkster’s ad supported free calling service.

How to use Talkster with GTalk2VoIP from your computer:

  • Set-up your free Google Talk and Gmail account.
  • Launch Google Talk on your desktop
  • Add friends as you normally would: click on the “Add” button to add a friend
  • Type in the phone number of the person you want to call in the following format, using their full phone number including country code and area code.
  • phonenumber@talkster.gtalk2voip.com
  • Talkster generates a local number for your friend in the country you are calling. Your friend will use this phone number to call-in to be connected with you.
  • If you are calling your friend on a mobile phone, they will receive an SMS with their Talkster call-in number for you. Otherwise, let them know the Talkster number by IM or email.

Read detailed instructions here.

When away from their computers callers can use Talkster’s Free World Dialing with GTalk2VoIP from their mobile phones by downloading Talkonaut, a free mobile client. The Talkonaut mobile client works over GPRS, 3G or WiFi allowing callers to utilize their data plan if they choose. With Talkonaut callers can use Talkster’s Free World Dialing with GTalk2VoIP to make free international, long distance, and group calls directly from their mobile phones for free.

All Talkster calls are ad-supported, so users don’t pay long distance or international calling charges, and can talk as long as they like for the cost of a single local call. Callers listen to a 10-second audio ad prior to the start of their call and their talk time is never limited or interrupted.

Though all GTalk2VoIP services can be used from IM accounts without any additional downloads, the team developed its Talkonaut mobile software to expand its capabilities and to offer callers a Google Talk like application for mobile phones. Talkonaut makes it possible to chat and make voice calls to IM clients, SIP phones and any phone number in the world, all from your mobile phone.

Clear IE7 Browsing History From the Command Line

•February 2, 2010 • Leave a Comment

If you like to build batch files to automate cleanup on your computer, you’ll probably want to include at least one of these commands in your batch script. You can automate any one of the functions on the Internet Explorer 7 Delete Browsing History dialog.

Here’s the dialog that you are probably used to seeing:

And here’s the commands that correspond to the different buttons. The most important one from a cleanup perspective is the first, which will delete just the temporary internet files that are cluttering up your computer.

To use these commands, just run them from the command line, the start menu search box in vista, or a batch file.

Temporary Internet Files

RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 8

Cookies

RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 2

History

RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 1

Form Data

RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 16

Passwords

RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 32

Delete All

RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 255

Delete All – “Also delete files and settings stored by add-ons”

RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 4351

These commands should work in Internet Explorer 7 on XP or on Windows Vista.

Defend Malware Using Winrar..!!

•January 3, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Recently i have seen that most of the malwares are hiding them in these places.

E:\$RECYCLE.BIN\

and similarly other drives..

Reasons:-

Because this Area is hidden and secondly if you click this you will see the files that are in your recycle Bin not the original file.
As this area is hidden so you cant see it and the file, if your computer is infected with such type of malwares.

Defend this Technique:-

Is of all your lets imagine the virus is in your pendrive with an autorun.inf file but haven’t infected your PC yet. To see this you should have a powerful explorer instead of windows Explorer. I recommend WinRar Explorer. It’s basically not a explorer but it’s a compression tools but i think it’s explorer is very very powerful. With the help of this your can discover these type of malwares and can easily delete them

Disable Autorun Feature in XP

•January 1, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Most of the worms, now in these days put autorun.inf file in pendrive for infection. Then put autorun.inf and worm file to pendrive. When ever you open thumb drive autorun feature in windows automatically execute that virus file and your computer get infected. They make both of them (usually) hidden so that the user cant see them.

To disable this autorun feature so that your computer, at least , should not get infected from your pendrive make a reg file.

DO THE FOLLOWING :-
1. Open notepad and put this code
2. Then save it as DisPenDrv.reg
3. Double click it and merge the settings.

CODE:
————————————————–
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\Autorun.inf]

Restore Task Manager, Regedit and Folder Options Disabled by Virus

•December 11, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Let’s face it. All of us have been infected by virus before. Even if you have anti-virus installed, you can still be infected by a new or custom virus that is not recognized by your anti-virus. Sometimes after removing the virus completely from our system, you’ll face new problems such as you can no longer bring up Windows Task Manager from CTRL+ALT+DEL. You get the error message saying “Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator”….

You think that it’s easy to fix this problem by going to Registry Editor but you can’t! You get the error message “Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator”.

Folder Options and even Show Hidden Files & Folder is disabled! How frustrating! Don’t worry, here’s how to restore your Windows Task Manager, Registry Editor, Folder Options and Show hidden files & folders.

This problem is most commonly caused by a virus called “Brontok”. Brontok virus will make some changes to the system restrictions in order to hide itself from easy detection and also from easy cleaning.

Here’s a free tool called Remove Restrictions Tool (RRT) which is able to re-enables all what the virus had previously disabled, and gives you back the control over your own computer.

Remove Restrictions Tool is able to re-enable:
- Registry Tools (regedit)
- Ctrl+Alt+Del
- Folder Options
- Show Hidden Files

Small and easy to use. Make sure you boot in to Safe Mode to use Remove Restrictions Tool (RRT). Just click on the buttons and it’ll do it’s job.

Install Linux and Windows in same Folder

•January 14, 2010 • 1 Comment

As we know that to install linux we need to create a separate partition of windows logical drive which is empty and so we need to format a logical drive before use.

So what about if the linux can be install on the same logical partion where windows is install and without harming or deleting any windows content.

You think this is not possible but my friend you are wrong this time it is possible.

The reason is that when we try to install Linux from a linux setup in the same partition where windows is install then it will not detect any windows data and overwrite its data on important *.dll system files of windows.

Hence windows will crash and you will not be able to boot windows.

This happens due to the installer of linux is not capable of detecting windows.
So if a installer of linux is there which detect windows then the above problem can be solved and so here I have found the solution which is 100% working and very useful.

Now you have an easy-to-use tool for installing Ubuntu linux into your PCs without disturbing your Windows installation.

One of the latest releases by Ubuntu, Wubi can do it for you. With Wubi you can install or uninstall Ubuntu on Windows in same folder.

That implies you don’t need partitioning for installation.
Wubi is a Windows application which runs in windows environment and can be downloaded for free here.

The installation can be accomplished without re-partitioning of the drive and there is no risk for wiping out of existing data.

Requirements:

Certain requirements you need to meet before installation.

1) Ensure that you download the right version of Wubi for Ubuntu installation

2) If you are using a disc, make sure it’s a standard desktop version of Ubuntu.

3) You need to have – 256 MB memmory, 5 GB harddisk space and Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista.

Steps to install UBHUNTU linux in Windows partition.

Follow the steps below for installation

1) Copy ISO setup of ubhuntu with Wubi executable in one folder.

2) Double click the Wubi executable. The installer will detect the ISO file and installation starts.

3) Windows will ask you to enter the admin username and password for the windows. Enter them and remember them as you would need them to enter the distribution.

4) When prompted, enter the size that you want to allocate for the distribution on the hard drive. Also choose the location where you want to install the Ubuntu.

When you are done with the above step, a folder will be created in its place having the necessary partitions as files in it.

5) Now click on the install to start the installation.

When the installation is complete reboot your system. You will find an option for booting into Ubuntu.

Now that you are done with the installation.

Uninstalling Ubuntu.

Later on, if you decide that Ubuntu isn’t meant for you, uninstall it.

Uninstalling Ubuntu is pretty much same as uninstalling any other Windows application.
Here are the steps to Uninstall Ubuntu.

1) After booting into Window, click on the Start button

2) Enter the Control Panel and select the Add/Remove Programs option.

3) Click on the Ubuntu and then click on the Change/Remove

4) Click on the Uninstall.
Once you are over with it Ubuntu will be removed from your computer.

I think you are done with the UHUNTU linux installation from windows in windows partition.

How delete different o/s option before booting option

•January 7, 2010 • Leave a Comment

If you install two operating system like windows and linux or you reinstall windows (98,2000,xp)operating system in that case you see option for choosing operating system but you want only one operating system at starting time. Then follows these steps and remove other option.
Right click on “My Computer” icon and choose “Properties” and goes to “advance” tab and click on ” Settings ” under Startup and Recoveryoption, after this click on edit option now open a boot file in this file you see two or three lines like this “multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional” /noexecute=optin /fastdetect”. In these like 1st line represent 1st option, 2nd line represent 2nd option and respectively. Now you can delete any line which you dont like but before doing this copied this file. Now restart your system and you can see your problem removed.

manually change your status to ‘Idle’ in Google talk

•December 24, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Google Talk currently enables us to change our status to either Available or Busy. But sometimes, we might just want to take a break and appear to be ‘away’ to our friends even when we are not. The default time to become Idle in Google Talk is 10 minutes. But with the help of a nifty little app, we can change our status to Idle immediately. The application is gAlwaysIdle.

It lets you change your status to Idle with just a click. gAlwaysIdle provides three options: Normal Idle, Always Idle, Never Idle.
  • Normal Idle: default 10-minute-no-activity Idle, selected by default
  • Always Idle: immediately changes your status to Idle, and
  • Never Idle: never lets Gtalk change your status to Idle, it overrides the 10-minute-no-activity Idle.

It’s just a 118 KB download, installs really quickly and you can start ‘Idling’ straight away. And we hope that Google adds the option to manually change our status to Idle and incorporates all the Google Talk, Labs Edition features in the next Google Talk update.

• Switch to the Mozilla Firefox and Install the Add on User Agent Switcher

Call from PC to Phone for FREE with EVAPHONE

•January 15, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I just stumbled on a site that is able to make free calls from PC to phone. Perhaps there are other better site or method to make calls from PC to phone, but this is something I just happen to know when checking out some forums and thought of sharing it with all of you.

To be able to call from PC to phone, they’d have to use VoIP service. Voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) is a protocol optimized for the transmission of voice through the Internet or other packet-switched networks. VoIP is often used abstractly to refer to the actual transmission of voice (rather than the protocol implementing it). VoIP allows users to use regular telephone networks anywhere through any internet service provider, and avoids issues on long distance charges that are normally subject to callers. This latter concept is also referred to as IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband, broadband telephony, and broadband phone.

I’ve tested calling my land line and even my cellphone, both rang!

When you want to call a number from your PC, you need to watch a short advertisement first before it’ll connect you through. I believe that’s how they are able to provide free calls from PC to phone. However, after calling a few times for free, you’ll get the message “Your free call limit is exceeded for today. Would you like to register?” and “Call limit is exceeded for your IP”.

There’s a saying that goes “there is no free lunch in this world” and that is quite true. You can use EVAPHONE to call land line or cellphone for free but with time and call limit. Calling some countries can only last a few seconds but for calling United States can go up to 6 minutes! You can refer to this list on the free call duration. The free call is not really for chatting because of the call limitation but would be useful if you’re lazy to text using SMS and want to let your friend or family know about something immediately. It could also fun to prank your friends phone number if you have dynamic IP address .

EvaPhone provides free Internet telephone calls worldwide, it includes almost all countries including India, china, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines etc. It has a flashed based calling and there is not registration required. Just go to the website http://www.evaphone.com/ and start making free calls. Evaphone offers free and paid calls. Free calls are based on the advertisement, Call duration is very short and quality is so so. A countdown timer is started to indicate the time left. Apart from free calls, they also offer paid calls with registration. This website requires PC supporting Adobe Flash Player 9.0 or higher
